One of my more contentious takes is that we assume a utopian world is one wallet that connects every app. I actually believe that we will have may different wallets for many different apps. What's unique about crypto is the ability to tie all those wallets (and their onchain history) together under one profile.

Or don't, for places where you'd prefer privacy! I don't actually want my net worth visible next to my sports bets, farcaster posts, and hypersub subscriptions, nor do I want the risk of one private key controlling everything I care about.

This is kind of the Privy thesis, with the ability to link wallets across apps if you desire to try to get best of both worlds

I agree, I think we’ll have different styles of apps and corresponding wallets (or at least the option to) with the commonality being a singular identity that links them. The closest at the moment I’ve seen is something like ens and resolving addresses tied to the owner. Do you have any other good examples?

I assume you are using the term "wallet" to refer to the software that is used to interact with x chain. If so, why different wallets for different dapps when we already have wallets that actually can interact with all popular chains, let alone per dapp?

Agreed, but also the wallets need to be easily interchangable or bridged. Try explaining to someone that their value on one chain has to go through a CEX to get it over to their other wallet. If we're trying to onboard the average joe, it has to be dead ass simple to use.

To be fair, it’s just one degree of separation for connection in your original post, either we have a wallet where we distribute unification across many apps/chains, or we have a profile where we witness an automatic distribution across many apps/chains

Debatable 🤔, as I believe convenience (one wallet) is always the biggest thing when it comes to regular folks. But open to discussion 🙌. 100 $DEGEN

This I can agree on. There will not be a universal 'web3" identity, just many web3 social accounts that you own. https://xkcd.com/927/
