A couple years ago I imagined what cars would look like as fully autonomous micro-mobility public transport infrastructure, rather than personal, private mobility. Cities could partner with private companies to deploy fleets of autonomous vehicles that could act as platforms to host a variety of internal experiences: comfy lounge, newsstand, F&B vending, etc.

Jeff Bezos' backed startup Zoox is exploring that very possibility: https://zoox.com/

Autonomous vehicle mobility solutions are going to start with rideshare, bleed into delivery & shipping, and could eventually end up replacing thousands of private commutes in every city each day.

Cars are not going away in our cities so we should be imagining bigger ways to turn them into mobility solutions.

Obviously, I have my reservations about a Bezos' backed company, but this is a first mover toward a vision I feel strongly could positively impact urban mobility forever.
