Historically, the act of passing on an axe was considered a sacred ritual, symbolizing the transfer of important means of production and power to the next generation. The axe held tremendous significance due to its role as a tool of production and as a symbol of power and authority. In modern times, this act is akin to passing on a family business or corporate leadership. The material or physical changes to the axe don’t matter; what matters is the formal acceptance of the axe as a symbol. Therefore, the axe my grandfather passed down to my father and the axe I own today should be seen as having the same status.
