The head of serial killer Diogo Alves has been kept at the University of Lisbon in Portugal for over 180 years. He was famous for killing about 70 people in the 19th century. In 1841, after the execution, the killer's head was cut off and placed in a jar. It has remained in this jar ever since and is available for viewing at the university.
In 1986, in the Romanian Movile cave, a speleologist conducting geological research in the area discovered a closed ecosystem, existing and developing in isolation. It has been established that life in the cave arose during the early Pliocene, at which time Australopithecines related to humans appeared and died out, and the first people appeared. It’s not surprising that scientists are interested in this ecosystem. They hope to get an answer to the question of whether there is life on other planets where there is no oxygen and organic food.
