Just because you're good at it doesn’t mean you should do it. It's worth repeating: skill ≠ interest. In work, people often confuse what they’re good at with what they actually enjoy. But the cost of staying in that confusion can be steep. Matt Mochary’s Zone of Genius is one of my favorite frameworks for getting clear on what truly matters—and how to do more of it. The real danger? It’s not the Zone of Incompetence. It’s the Zone of Excellence: Spending a lifetime doing something you’re great at… but don’t love. This is a powerful exercise—not just for individuals, but for teams. Because how we spend our time is a reflection of what we value. Try this: At your next team meeting, give each other feedforward on your Zones of Genius. It might just change the way you work—and why. https://docs.google.com/document/d/11UVWJox31Ani8Cq6Ymhm6DiVUiv5vPkOQd8ZdGpYmbs/edit?tab=t.0#

Three essential questions every team should ask: - What matters most? - What does it look like? - How will we stay accountable? Then – How are we doing? (Ask it often.) A focused team can clarify values/nonnegotiables in an hour. Then just 15-minute check-ins every other week. If you're a leader, bring in a coach to guide it. It’ll save you time, money, and costly, costly misalignment.

GM + happy Wednesday 👏🏻👏🏻 This week I’ve had the chance to work in person with two teams — one in Texas, one in Pennsylvania. Remote is efficient, to be sure. But when the goal is to perform better together — nothing beats being in the room. If you’re a leader and this speaks to you, let’s jam.

Many people think self-kindness is indulgent. The truth? It’s one of the most overlooked leadership skills there is. This episode of The Delta explains why 👏🏻👏🏻 Episode 14 – The Quiet Power of Self-Kindness with Sarah Musich In a world that rewards burnout and busyness, therapist and school counselor Sarah Musich offers a radical idea: what if we spoke to ourselves the way we speak to a friend? Sarah and executive performance coach Kevin Coale explore the hidden costs of self-criticism and the surprising strength of gentleness in high-performance environments. From overwhelmed founders to striving students, the conversation offers practical tools for cultivating a kinder internal voice – starting today. They also unpack the overlap between therapy and coaching, and revisit a leadership question Sarah once shared that Kevin still uses in his work: Will this matter in 20 years? Listen + mint here: https://pods.media/the-delta/episode-14-the-quiet-power-of-self-kindness-with-sarah-musich

Positive-Sum Saturday: Giving away a tool that works 👇 Working with a leader who’s just not getting it? This is my go-to 360º assessment for provoking awareness. Simple. Free. Transformational when followed. 1) Coach + leader clarify goals 2) Leader picks 3–5 custom Qs 3) Team (5–8) gives input, 1:1 4) Coach synthesizes anonymously 5) Leader self-evals 6) Review + action plan 7) Feedforward for growth DM me if I can help. It's a great day to be coachable, my friends 👏🏻👏🏻
