1/ Every system reveals what it believes about power. In most institutions, money and authority collapse into one mechanism. Capital becomes voice. Funding becomes priority. Ownership becomes governance. Whether in municipal politics, nonprofit boards, or token-weighted DAOs, the pattern is familiar: those who finance the system shape it.

2/2: Whether the interface ends up being the Base app, Farcaster, or something else entirely, the question remains the same: Are we building things people return to because they’re useful, or because they hope to time an exit? CityBloks exists to prove the utility of onchain civic systems that embed crypto’s values without turning every interaction into a financial bet. If we want crypto to be taken seriously outside our bubble, usefulness has to lead. Everything else should be in service of that. 2/ The outcome is rarely malicious. It is structural. When money carries governance weight, legitimacy becomes financialized. CityBloks begins from a different premise. Trust must precede treasury. The diagram accompanying this article is not a product flow. It is a constitutional structure. It depicts two rails that run in parallel and never converge.
