trying to decide if i love the melgeek o2 low profile keyboard with kailh sunlight creamy switches or hate it it sounds really nice but transitioning fingers from the keyboard to the trackpad is awkward b/c of the height diff with the keyboard on top motivating me to learn more keyboard shortcuts cc @stevedv.eth @cbxm

imo: 1) definitely maximize keyboard shortcuts + navigation; best browser extension hands down for me has been Vimium; scroll up (u) or down (d) or best of all, hit (f) and every clickable element in the browser viewport is 1-2 keystrokes away from simulating a click. Cannot recommend enough! 2) you can try having your thumbs hover between the space bar and track pad and slowly build the muscle memory. or if you have money to blow you can get a magic pad + a lift of sorts to level it πŸ˜† 3) alternatively you can try a trackball mouse if the goal is to have a setup with minimal desk space! though may not be be as well suited for computing while traveling like planes

this is sick. been thinking about designing my own plate to place over my laptops keys so i can set my keyboard there, but... having a split keeb means i actually want my arms to rest about a laptop's width away anyway. seems like @stevedv.eth has pretty good solutions here, though. i agree that you should lean into keyboard shortcuts. and if Hive supports it, get on home row mods ASAP. it'll change your life.
