Lets talk about effort
In all aspects of life, you can only really trust people that put in the work. Would you let a guy that says he is a doctor, but hasn't got a degree, do surgery on you?
ofc not
so why in crypto do people trust projects that can't build smart contracts.
-you have @pumpdotfun calling KOLs, "devs"
-you have @StreamDefi running wild loops with EOA (metamask wallets)
-you have curators all over the place that dont even seem to care about smart contracts
the effort it takes to get a Doctorate, is similar to the effort is takes to develop and test, a fully autonomous smart contract suite. It takes teams, even the small projects.
Chains often dont care if a project has read devs, they want txns.
Farms, and lending markets, are more and more permissionless.
So you have to do your own DD, but there are some simple ways to check.
