oh right! i forgot they made a series. what aspect(s) about it scare you? it's a completely understandable fear to me — i've been working up the nerve to hero dose to shed old skin, but i'm a little afraid that the person i'll be on the other side is not the person i can vaguely see from here. which, like... of course not. to some degree, that's the point. but, more likely, it'll temporarily show me someone that i COULD be, and then it'll still be on me to do the hard work of becoming that person in a durable way.

i've been working my way through How To Change Your Mind by Michael Pollan. he's a food journalist that got interested and wrote a book on his research. even if you never take the journey, i've learned a lot from his accounts of others' experiences. highly recommend!

thank you! i'm very glad you liked it! the big switch that flipped for me was when i learned humans are motivated by loss aversion, not improvement or gain. we want to keep what we have more than we want to acquire something better. helped me understand why my instinct was to maintain a spot on the rewards leaderboard, rather than do something else with my time that might have equivalent or greater value. but then i realized i realized that the leaderboard was occupying more than $5 dollars worth of space in my brain all week every week, and that i was probably losing more than i was gaining, on the whole. made it hurt just a little less to step off. life's tricky, huh?

vertical integration and horizontal infiltration google already owns/makes anything you'd want to put AI in, and Android XR will put multimodal LLMs anywhere you can't build a hardware surface (think mechanics, plumbers, all the physical trades, etc) or where platforms/companies don't want them to be integrated (think video games) google won the internet age so far because they subsidized the process of getting more devices onto the internet (phones, chromebooks, home internet, telecom services) so that more people would have access to their ads. they'll run the same playbook with AI — make it so everyone has access to their LLM offerings, everywhere, and heavily subsidize the hardware journey along the way no matter where that takes them. they don't need to defend. they'll go on the offensive. and they'll use their massive reach and resources to expand beyond normal consumers faster than anyone else can. NotebookLM, Android XR, Gemini Live — pocket change compared to healthcare, edu, and the trades.

this is sick. been thinking about designing my own plate to place over my laptops keys so i can set my keyboard there, but... having a split keeb means i actually want my arms to rest about a laptop's width away anyway. seems like @sdv.eth has pretty good solutions here, though. i agree that you should lean into keyboard shortcuts. and if Hive supports it, get on home row mods ASAP. it'll change your life.

i should do a write-up about everything that happened this off-season. "unprecedented" is really the only word that works, and it's not even close to sufficient. need way more.
