*Ethereum (ETH): A Brief Overview* Ethereum is a decentralized, open-source blockchain system that features smart contract functionality. It was proposed in late 2013 by programmer Vitalik Buterin and development began in early 2014, with the network officially launching on July 30, 2015. Unlike Bitcoin, which is primarily a digital currency, Ethereum was designed as a platform to facilitate decentralized applications (dApps). It allows developers to create and deploy smart contracts—self-executing agreements with the terms directly written into code.
