Friday was my last day at @thirdweb! I joined the team when it was 4 engineers in a discord server, and it’s been the most blessed experience going from 0 to one of the biggest development tools in web3. We built one of the best growth teams in the industry and I've been lucky enough to work with the best creative talent in tech. This is my 10th year in startups so I’m going to take a few weeks off to enjoy the summer in NYC before diving into my own thing. My messy, disconnected stream of consciousness on the latest Zora update, creator coins and onchain social in general. Firstly, having an emotional reaction to the way people use permissionless technology is a waste of energy. As someone who has been deep in crypto for 5+ years whilst also being a creator in web2 for 10+ years, this is the first time I’ve been able to seamlessly combine the two without having to over-explain what I’m doing to either audience - that’s a win. The biggest challenge with onchain social has always been making it easy for creators to use and understand. Creators don’t care about infra, crypto or ERC20s they just want to post and make more than $0. Zora is very easy to use. I open my phone, I tap post, select the image and choose a title. Whether Zora is easy to understand is a different question. I still don’t really know what my market cap means. I don’t know which tokens I should sell and my fees seem to change periodically. This is the next big UX hurdle.

been playing around with amps to grow @thirdweb - this felt significant to me for a couple reasons: when I was 18 I used to build twitter meme pages one day twitter rugged and suspended all of them because one of my growth strategies was to buy retweets off other pages at scale this went against their terms of service for some reason and without communication or explanation, they closed down pages I had built with 500k+ followers. (google twitter purge) seeing an app build the same feature natively into the platform is a paradigm shift. the future of social will be letting people do and build what they want on top of the network. no arbitrary rules that put a cap on creativity. amps is cool because it a) acts as a push notification to a group of followers that we've posted b) recasts to their followers for an engagement boost not sure how long the efficacy will last, but love seeing this kind of experimentation
