I am nominating @codeofcrypto for his tireless and enthusiastic leadership of the /law-policy channel and the legal community here on Farcaster. Some of his many contributions include: - Bringing "lawcasters" together IRL in multiple cities around the world for roughly a dozen meetups. - Organizing and sponsoring law & policy happy hours at Farcon 2024 and Farcon 2025. - Raising awareness of Farcaster and the law & policy channel at industry events, including arranging for the law & policy channel to sponsor the happy hour at the DC Privacy Summit in October 2024. - Creating and regularly updating a law & policy starter pack (https://farcaster.xyz/codeofcrypto/pack/Law-Policy-8tx6kn) to help onboard new channel members and help them build their network. - And generally looking for ways to connect lawyers, policy-makers, founders, and academics to each other so that we can all build a better regulatory landscape for blockchain and related technologies. #farcasterrpgfspring2025

Idt any notable policy updates from dinner itself. Def think Ds will keep flagging as conflicts of interest concern (e.g. already a bunch of amendments filed to GENIUS to update ethics rules to address memecoins/crypto).

Before breaking for the Memorial Day recess, lawmakers packed in a flurry of crypto-related activity—from Senate movement on GENIUS to House action on debanking and a hearing with SEC Chair Paul Atkins.

The Senate stablecoin bill is (finally!) here! And lots of TradFi trying to "how do you do, fellow kids" into DeFi now that Congress is on board. Here's everything that happened in crypto law last week: https://nfttorney.com/2025/05/20/off-the-blockchain-may-5-12-2025-2/

👨‍⚖️Newsletter, Fresh & Hot👩‍⚖️ With GENIUS up for a vote, and looking likely to pass cloture later today, I took a look back at the Market Structure draft from a few weeks ago. Why do people like this again? I am genuinely curious, so let me know what you think and SUBSCRIBE. https://open.substack.com/pub/broganlaw/p/finding-god-on-market-structure?r=487bq2&utm_medium=ios

I don't know if it was a slow week in legal developments or I was just busy studio Ghibli styling every picture I have. But there were some Stablecoin developments and Ripple is done litigating. Here's everything from crypto law last week: https://nfttorney.com/2025/04/01/off-the-blockchain-march-24-31-2025/

Fresh newsletter. I was curious how the SEC’s recent PoW mining guidance might abstract to PoS staking, so I did a deep dive. I think there is a reasonably strong argument to extrapolate here, especially in light of the SEC’s dismissal of the Coinbase and Consensys cases. https://open.substack.com/pub/broganlaw/p/so-is-staking-legal-now?r=487bq2&utm_medium=ios

STABLE would require payment stablecoin issuers to back stablecoins w/ liquid reserve assets on at least a 1:1 basis, disclose reserve asset info, and comply with the BSA and rules relating to capital, liquidity, and risk-management. Issuers could not pay interest or yield to stablecoin holders.
