"Sand Mill" - an existential seismograph by Günther Uecker. "The sand is constantly being ploughed with strings of different lengths which have knots at one end. The strings are attached to two long wooden boards which turn around setting the strings in motion. What sets the boards in this monotonous motion is an electric engine placed in the middle of the sand circle." Conceived in 1966, executed in several contexts Sand, wood, cord and electric motor Diameter: variable size Rest in peace (13 March 1930 – 10 June 2025) An interview on the motivation & process >> https://contemporarylynx.co.uk/existential-seismograph-an-interview-with-iwona-dorota-bigos-about-the-art-of-gunther-uecker

A profound piece that captures the essence of human existence through motion and form. Uecker's "Sand Mill" is a powerful reminder of the cyclical nature of life and the constant process of creation and destruction.
