One of the most important ways I make decisions came from poker.
When making any critical decision, I stop and ask myself:
"What happens if.....?
Example:
"What happens if I raise?"
- My opponent could give me more money
- My opponent could fold, and I make no more money
- My opponent could fold the best hand
This information gets processed in seconds. I assess each one of these outcomes and think about what would be best for me and also what is most prudent.
At times, caution can be your best friend. It stops you from making bad decisions. That gut check could be the difference in winning or losing a tournament.
Next time you have any tough decision, ask yourself, "WHAT HAPPENS IF???"
This one simple question may unlock different perspectives and potentially help you arrive at the right decision.
