Canadian? It turns out, ‘dollar’ isn’t just one currency – it’s a family of currencies with different faces! The name ‘dollar’ comes from ‘thaler,’ a silver coin from 16th-century Europe. Over time, different countries adopted the name, each adding their own twist. Today, 35 countries use some form of a dollar as their national currency: 8 officially use the U.S. dollar, and 27 have their own versions! For example, the East Caribbean dollar is used in several Caribbean nations. I’ll be exploring more coins from different countries, starting with these showpieces from my collection.
