Being raised in a tiny community made schooling seem unattainable. Despite its modesty, our local school had a lot of potential. When I was seven years old, my diligent parents, who had little schooling themselves, made school a priority for me. "Education is the key," my father declared on my first day. I struggled, particularly in math, but Mr. Reynolds, my teacher, made things clear to me.
