Try to slow down from your busy routine now and then. Fill your life with more little moments of introspection, of appreciation for the beauty around you. It’s those little moments that form your life.

Happy Tree Thursday from The Palouse: an agricultural region of Eastern Washington state (USA) with an amazing patchwork of fields on rolling hills. It’s absolute eye candy for landscape photographers.

We made it to the weekend! Let’s enjoy another “Landscape Story”: a photograph accompanied by a creative narrative. I took this shot in Kauai, HI, when I was surprised by an inquisitive neighbor… HELLO GECKO The world stands still under this tropical sun Yet in the shadows, the subtlest of movements A dazzling green face appears Quizzical, studying me With eyes as deep as black pearls For a moment, neither of us moves Then in a flash The resplendent mirage is gone

Happy Friday! Winter is when I have to curtail most of my photo travels, and this season has been especially busy with projects keeping me home. But that doesn’t stop the dreaming and planning for upcoming trips. ITAP of rolling hills of wheat during autumn harvest which is also my next destination. I plan to head back here in late March to capture these hills in the light green of spring.

The weekend is here, so it’s time for another one of my “Landscape Stories”: a photograph accompanied by a creative narrative. I took this photo deep inside Death Valley National Park, hiking by flashlight well before dawn so I could be in position to catch the lowest angle of sun rays across the sand. That’s what makes these ridges look so big—in reality, each is only about 1” high. LEADING LINES Can you feel it? The gravity of the wild Drawing you in to sweeping landscapes Where distant mountains beckon It starts with your eye That follows these natural lines Pulling your feet forward Leading your soul to adventure

The issue I have with New Year resolutions is that the resolution soon fades, and is typically forgotten or abandoned by spring. And then the cycle repeats without any more success next year. Instead of this pattern, here’s a suggestion—something I’ve been trying now for about 4 years. Consider 2 things: first, what little thing can you do today that makes you appreciate the here and now? Try to hold on to that sense of fulfillment each day. Second, what might you change in your life that would make you happier? New job? Take a risk and finally tell that person how you feel about them? Make a pilgrimage? Whatever it is, commit to getting to that goal each day. For me, this mindset is what finally freed me from a unfulfilling but steady job and got me out to prioritize my photography. And as long as I’ve been doing this, I’ve been happier and healthier. Just get there and find your bliss. Life is good. 💙
