Heaps of tractor work today
We finally replaced our old flail mower (overdue after 13 years of heavy use). New mower arrived last week and today it made its debut in the fields.
Cleaned up heaps of residue from last season, probably covered a third of our acreage. Then did some tillage (first picture) to start working ground for planting later this month.
The beds we’ll plant this week’s, I worked late last fall, so we would have a spot of low residue, easy to warm up and dry, soils for spring planting.
Beautiful day, and got to enjoy the ncaa hockey championship on the headphones while finishing the day.
Rare for us to put 6 hours + on the engine in one day. We’ve only put 400 hours on this tractor in 6 years, though for 5 of those it didn’t have to do any mowing.
Tractor hours don’t necessarily equal time hours.
One hour doesn’t equal one hour, it depends on the RPMs for some meters, including ours.
Feels good to get going on the fieldwork ahead of fine spring weather.
