Officially crossed the line where office work gets done late evening vs daylight… Clearwater lettuce from this morning’s cut. Texture can offer a lot of insight when you are considering quality. Our premise: thicker leaves = better sunlight photosynthetic capture due to larger volume in mesophyll allowing for greater population of chloroplasts. increases need for nutrient highway to be developed by the plants, see vein structure… we address iron to ensure thickness potential is there. Iron is less available in dry, aerated soils (we typically don’t irrigate - though these are from a fieldhouse where we run drip cause they never get rainfall. Soil biology & plant rhizosphere can help make iron more available under adverse conditions, yet we like to add a bit of soluble iron sulfate in our mineral mix to ensure there is a new partner at the dance - soils typically have heaps of iron, yet not so much available unless they get water logged etc. Anyway, still miss bolsachica oakleaf, yet Clearwater performs well enough.
