An on chain record that verifies you bought the item - but only when you want it to, eg when you sell it. Privacy is required because most people won’t want others to see what they’ve bought.

Exactly. The idea is to build a web2-web3 bridge. Receipts are minted on chain, viewable in Metamask etc, but also via a web2 login for people who don’t have a wallet. From a brand perspective it gives you a permanent link with the customer for giveaways, servicing etc.
