For the last 2+ years I’ve been jumping between niches in Web3.
Learning a bit of everything. Never going deep enough into one thing.
The last 4 months were worse.
Lots of movement. No clarity. Trying to find the “perfect” path.
I’m done with that.
I’ve decided to lock in as a DeFi protocol analyst & onchain forensics researcher and today was Day 1 of rebuilding my foundation from first principles.
Today’s focus: the EVM state machine.
Most people think:
> EVM = Ethereum
That’s not quite right.
The EVM is the environment.
Ethereum is just one network that runs it.
The mental model that finally clicked for me:
1. Android OS → EVM
2. Samsung / Pixel → Ethereum, Polygon, BNB
3. Apps → Smart contracts
Same environment → same apps → different devices.
That’s why contracts port across chains.
