It seems nearly every famous person has said integrity is doing what's right when nobody is watching. Everyone from CS Lewis to Oprah Winfrey has their own version of the saying. And I appreciate the sentiment. I think that sounds great, but it's a lot muddier than that. Right according to who? Lots of people think they did the right thing and half the world disagrees. Right according to what standard? We need a better definition of integrity. Since it's the word of the day, maybe that's the cast we need. Who's got a better working definition?
