🎨 COLOUR CHRONICLES: "Daily dose of colours"🎨
Day 16: Ultramarine Blue
History and Origin:
Ultramarine Blue, derived from the Latin "ultra marinus," meaning "beyond the sea," was originally made from lapis lazuli, a semi-precious stone mined in Afghanistan. It was considered more valuable than gold during the Renaissance.
Where It’s Found:
This stunning blue is seen in the deep ocean, clear skies, and artwork like Michelangelo's "The Last Judgment."
Color Combination:
Ultramarine Blue is often made synthetically today by combining sodium silicate, sulfur, and clay, then firing it at high temperatures.
