James pulls of an incredible rhetorical inversion, using examples technology to help us rethink our place in the beyond-human-world. Weaves a fascinating tale with of threads from Cybernetics, Neural Nets, Internet, RNGs, Slime molds, Sortition, Mycelium, animal behaviour etc https://i.imgur.com/ylonjU9.jpg

Maybe it's a good time to start meta-learning the "Social AI skills" (as humans) for making the best use of stuff like ChatGPT or Github CoPilot. I guess there might not be a single good strategy to interact with all of them. They might always end up having a different "personality" because of how they're grounded.

He mentions, "Encounters with animal mind", where Anthropologist Barbara Smuts travels with a baboon tribe. One time, the entire tribe stopped and sat alone or in small clusters gazing at puddles of water along a stream. I got remided of this in my trip where I was doing something similar with the lake.

I am attracted to robotics research because I care about learning algorithms that help build agents that are like robust animal inteligences 🐱 rather than any grandiose or maybe ill-defined "AGI". Maybe a turing-like test for sheer wonder is not so farfetched in such an agenda.

I think it's not uniquely human experience. In "Ways of being: Beyond human intelligence" by James Bridle, writes about instances of spiritual-like wonder of nature expressed by animals.
