What do people actually do for the summer with no football? I’m quickly running out of podcasts about this season to listen to!

About halfway through the latest All In Podcast, they dove into the AI Doom-vs.-Boom debate. A couple quick thoughts:

1. They kept assuming that higher productivity means higher wages and better living standards. That hasn’t been true since the late ’70s—policy has decoupled productivity gains from average workers’ pay (see the EPI’s “productivity–pay gap” data: https://www.epi.org/productivity-pay-gap/). Productivity goes up, but pay doesn’t.

2. Labeling concerns about AI-driven layoffs for managerial positions as “fearmongering” misses the point. Sure, entry-level roles might be the first to go. But what happens to the managers whose job it was to oversee those now-unneeded positions?

On a side note, I’ve been a big fan of Politico’s reporting lately. In the UK, EU and US they’re constantly proving precise coverage and through things like the Digital Future Daily (linked), they’re highlighting an important issue and giving some decent analysis where others haven’t

Just watched The Substance. I ordinary struggle with body horror and gore but that was pretty fun

To me, Wes Anderson is hit or miss. ‘The Phoenician Scheme’ qualifies as the former. Benicio Del Toro is magnetic + enigmatic, and Mia Threapleton holds her own in their repartee. Yes, she’s Kate Winslet’s daughter, and you can’t unsee it once you know. Sit center cinema to savor the signature symmetry.

Thank you for assuming all of this within the replies of MY own post! But yes, I do probably have weak shins. But @alor is also right, shin splints are usually down to overtraining too. I used to get some shin pain in both legs last year and then bought new shoes, did the tricks and fixed me good as new. But now just some pain in the right leg! Either way, I’m taking a break from running and working on some shin strength at the gym

I think that’s probably a good idea, I’m definitely going to try and up the step count for now to at least keep active. Others have suggested swimming to keep up the cardio without the strain on the legs

I think you’re definitely not supposed to continue – everything I’ve read/heard has said to just stop for 2 weeks or so, or reduce mileage
