Hawaiian swimmer Duke Kahanamoku was a champion swimmer and famous surfer who not only shaped the history of Hawaiian surfing, but also brought modern shortboard surfing to Australia in 1914 and started the sport there as well. Today, the "Aloha Ambassador" is inducted into the Surfing Hall of Fame, and a statue of Duke rises above the sands of Kuhio Beach Park to honor his impact on surfing history.
