These days we call everyone an “artist” even actors and directors. But an artist, according to me, is someone who creates something new from zero. A painting, a story, a world… something that didn’t exist before.
Actors and directors don’t really create from scratch. They interpret. An actor brings a written character to life. A director shapes how the story is shown. Huge skill, yes, but the original art comes from the creator.
Maybe performers are “performing artists” or “art interpreters,” and that’s a whole separate debate. But creators and performers aren’t the same.
Honestly, my inner voice keeps telling me this: not every actor is an artist, and I cringe a bit when they call themselves one.
What do you think?
