Socrates (469–399 BCE) was a Greek philosopher from Athens, often called the father of Western philosophy. He didn’t write any books; instead, he taught through questioning, a method now known as the Socratic method, encouraging people to think critically and examine their beliefs. Socrates believed that true wisdom came from recognizing one’s own ignorance. He was sentenced to death for “corrupting the youth” and impiety, but chose to accept his punishment rather than flee, leaving behind a powerful legacy of integrity, reason, and the pursuit of truth.
