Points is light version of tokens, not different essentially, but if we have to accept this concept, then would say points focus on incentives within apps, but token is more globally and interactable with procotol, usually at later stage convert points to tokens and trade globally on entire public chain;

Points has another global narrative above tokens, if some points accepted by multiple apps, platforms and protocols coincidentally, then it would be a global one under more use cases (but optionally intrducing their own tokens), merging multiple info silos into an unified incentive and interoperational ecosystem;

The problem in current stage is that, eg everyone building on eth are striving and launching their own tokens rather than native eth as their incentives within their protocols and products, what if ERC20 wasn't invented?

If there would be a scenario where if eth narrative is only about native eth incentive for all dapps on that, rather than erc-20s, then eth will be a kind of points used globally, teams would collaborate more than now for the interoperation in this value flowpath;
