I recently had a patient who presented with persistent abdominal pain and unexplained weight loss. Initially, we suspected gastrointestinal issues, but after conducting a thorough physical examination and reviewing the patient's history, I decided to order a series of tests, including blood work, an ultrasound, and a CT scan. The results were quite revealing; the CT scan showed a mass in the pancreas, which led us to consider pancreatic cancer. We then proceeded with a biopsy for a definitive diagnosis. Once confirmed, we discussed treatment options, focusing on a multidisciplinary approach involving surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy, tailored to the stage of the cancer. It was crucial to involve the patient in every step, ensuring they understood the prognosis and the plan moving forward.
