morning thoughts, There are many Algerias. One is shaped by a cultural mirroring of Europe just across the Mediterranean. itβs a space of music, cuisine, and women moving with relative freedom. Then there is another Algeria, one that feels suspended in time β as though youβve stepped back into the early 20th century. Imagine the most conservative, rural town in the American South then layer that with the weight of rigid interpretations of Islam. I come from a town where, after 3 p.m., women are scarcely seen in public. I mention this sometimes in previous posts but itβs quite an anxiety ridden experience going back to my judgmental outdated conservative town. I think im moderately conservative in my presentation online.. however I am met with lenses that have been conditioned to believe women simply should not exist or show themselves on the internet

Thank you for sharing this. The weight of being visible in spaces that deny your existence is so real.

That conflict is so real... trying to honor your roots without losing yourself in them. Maybe the βhiβ is enough for now. You donβt owe them your full self. π«Ά
