What is Blockchain technology? (for absolute beginners)
A blockchain is like a public, unchangeable notebook shared across thousands of computers. It keeps records (like transactions, ownership, or identities) that anyone can verify, and no one can secretly change.
It’s the tech behind Bitcoin, Ethereum, and most of Web3. Instead of trusting a single company or server, you trust the code and the network.
How does it help Farcaster?
Farcaster uses blockchain (Ethereum duhhh🙄) to give you a decentralized identity... your FID (Farcaster ID). That ID is tied to your crypto wallet, not to any one app.
Because it’s on-chain:
🙂 You own your identity (no one can delete or steal it),
😀 You can take it anywhere, even if the app you’re using disappears,
😃 And apps can trust it without needing to ask a central server.
Farcaster doesn’t put all your posts on the blockchain Just your core identity and account actions... so the important stuff is secure, but everything else stays fast. 3 replies
