DID YOU KNOW?
Botanically speaking, bananas are berries, while strawberries are not.
That must be surprising! But it is true.
A true berry is defined as a fruit developed from a single ovary with seeds embedded inside the flesh. Bananas fit this definition perfectly. Strawberries, however, are “aggregate fruits,” because their tiny seeds (called achenes) are on the outside and each one developed from its own ovary. So, the next time you enjoy your fruit, remember that appearances can be deceiving.
