DAOs aspire to democratize decision-making, but in practice, participation is low and power often concentrates among large token holders. Full decentralization collides with coordination costs, voter apathy, and governance capture. The challenge is designing systems that balance inclusivity with efficiency. While DAOs may never be perfectly decentralized, hybrid models—combining community input with delegated expertise—offer practical pathways. True decentralization may be less about ideal purity and more about resilience against centralized failure points.
