I presented “What we want from our nodes” at Protocol Berg yesterday, a talk discussing what we are optimising for and how the shapes of our nodes will evolve with new tech. Find the slides here: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1-6x18s72gm9bTmPcV1hb29MNArdzRWY4mws2dJhe95U/edit?usp=drivesdk

Thanks, I am pretty aligned with what you are saying here! I agree with @dankrad that the role of a blockchain is to confirm things, and so that makes it valuable. I hear different things from different people about finality, slot times etc, on net I would say good to improve intent/solver protocols short term, good to have the medium term view of faster finality then (pairs well with real-time proving/instant bridging too). I believe preconfirmations will fill the gap but we shouldn’t think of them as *the* solution, more as a stop-gap and a feature for confirmation speed that the L1 can never reach itself.

Is there a list of these wallets? I don’t think this is a criterion on Walletbeat yet

biggest ux problems in rough priority order: 1. onboarding funds 2. preventing wallet loss (passkey backup, recovery etc) 3. explaining transactions so users can make safe decisions. 4. discovering the "right" token to trade 5. handling transactions when the account lacks the gas token 6. bridging assets between chains and ecosystems 7. dealing with "spammy" assets 8. managing / unifying wallet balances some of these are partially solved, but not completely.

Well, we've been prioritizing expanding and finalizing the attribute set prior to digging into each and every wallets, as the attribute informs what to look for when researching wallets. So haven't done that much wallet review, as reflected by all the "unrated" pie slices on https://beta.walletbeat.eth.limo 😅 That said, off the top of my head, a global cross-chain balance view is fairly commonplace nowadays. It is implemented by at least Rabby, Rainbow, and Coinbase Wallet. Metamask also has a "portfolio" view which essentially implements the same thing. However, while they all show a total account figure which sums up the account value across all chains, each entry in the breakdown is about a specific single-chain token balance. So if you have USDC on 2 chains, that shows up as 2 entries, there's no consolidated "USDC cross-chain balance" entry. I also haven't yet seen any wallet that implements seamless bridging, though manual bridging options do exist within these wallets.

By transparent do you mean exposing the vendor/trust assumptions if you allow the user to bridge from the wallet? I can also think of consolidated balances/asset discovery functions

Is this L1 maximalism or chain abstraction maximalism? :)

I just tried to pay for Farcaster Pro on mobile using USDC from my Daimo account, and I couldn’t because I don’t have ETH in my Farcaster wallet (I do have excess USDC) I don’t know how common that is, and the list should be built from wider inputs, not just what I believe/encounter :)

Talk (crosschain) UX to me! We’re looking to identify, build and support pragmatic solutions to fix some of the most common user problems on Ethereum, with an amplified focus and the means to deliver.

I have recently taken on my new role as team lead of the Robust Incentives Group (RIG) and I am truly excited to continue pushing Ethereum forward together with our incredible team: @julianma @soispoke @anderselowsson @davidecrapis. A quick note on what do at RIG and some of our latest research: At RIG, we study Ethereum’s protocol architecture and mechanisms through the lens of game theory, mechanism design, using formal methods, and empirical analysis. While our work has an economic focus, it is inherently interdisciplinary—drawing insights from economics, computer science, cryptography, distributed systems, and beyond. We work and collaborate across these fields to find ways to improve Ethereum, balancing long-term foundational research with practical proposals for mainnet upgrades—biasing towards the latter. Our goal: mechanisms that are rigorous and practical.

In Orbit SSF, validators rotate based on size, leading larger validators to take on greater risks. We must therefore provide some incentives to ensure consolidation in the staking set. This post offers a framework for designing such incentives. https://ethresear.ch/t/consolidation-incentives-in-orbit-vorbit-ssf/21593
