For the genre of epic fantasy, we're in desperate need of a new Tolkien, Lewis, or Jordan. Sadly, the kind of myth - making and cultural - identity - forging events that fed their creativity have been scarce since the mid - 20th century. Maybe the rise of global cultures could be the new wellspring for epic fantasy stories.
