We don't truly grasp consciousness yet.
That's a major ethical problem.
New tests for awareness could help medicine, animals, and law.
But finding it in machines or lab-grown brains changes everything.
We'd have to rethink rights and responsibility.
What does it even mean to be conscious?
The question is now urgent and deeply troubling.
