Delhi, India — A city of cities — Delhi has been the capital of at least eight successive empires and dynasties over 5,000 years. The Mughal Red Fort, the ancient Qutb Minar, Humayun's Tomb, and the British-built New Delhi of Lutyens all occupy the same metropolitan sprawl. Few places on Earth compress so many layers of civilisation into a single urban space.
