Flash Flood Disaster in Texas: 51 Dead, Children Still Missing
Rescue teams are working day and night in central Texas after flash floods killed 51 people, including 15 children. Many more are still missing.
Worst hit Area: Kerr County,
Most of the deaths happened in Kerr County, where 43 people died. A Christian youth camp by the Guadalupe River was hit badly, 27 children from the camp are still missing.
The work continues, and will continue, until everyone is found, said Sheriff Larry Leitha.
Statewide Impact,
People also died in Travis County and Tom Green County. Flash flood warnings are still active across central Texas.
850 People Rescued,
So far, 850 people have been saved. Boats and helicopters are searching along the river to find anyone who may have been swept away.
Governor Abbott Acts,
Governor Greg Abbott signed an emergency order to bring in more help. He promised:
We will not stop until every single person is found.
President Trump Responds,
President Donald Trump said the federal government is working with state and local leaders to help with the rescue.
