Which trees can I plant in hardiness zone 8 that have vibrant autumn foliage? Bear in mind that various factors influence fall leaf color, from different varieties to temperature and from pests and drought. You have many options for potential colorful fall foliage in USDA Zone 8 (Zone 8 in different countries would offer other options): White Fringe Tree (Chionanthus virginicus), a North American native with gold leaves. Dogwood (Cornus florida), a native with red-purple leaves. Sugar Maple (Acer Saccharum) with lovely red leaves. Apple Serviceberry (Amelanchier spp), one of my favorite residential trees, it sports a nice red-orange color in fall (pic below). Washington Hawthorn (Crataegus phaenopyrum) has orange-purple leaves. Many other options are available to you, but these are my top 5.
