This is a wonderful, and wonderfully unique (yea, contrarian) essay (from @joanwestenberg.eth) Glad i woke up to this "My new system is, simply, no system at all. I write what I think. I delete what I don’t need. I don’t capture everything. I don’t try to. I read what I feel like. I think in conversation, in movement, in context. I don’t build a second brain. I inhabit the first." Reminds me of the Sarah Manguso line from the book 300 Arguments: "The first beautiful songs you hear tend to stay beautiful because better than beauty, which is everywhere, is the memory of first discovering beauty" https://www.joanwestenberg.com/p/i-deleted-my-second-brain

Wonderful essay from David Marx on culture, pop music, pop music culture, and what it all might mean "We live under an enduring critical contrarianism that is quick to find depth in shallowness, authenticity in artificiality, and true affirmations of life in cynical pursuit of profit." https://culture.ghost.io/the-pro-pop-ideology-from-ashlee-to-addison/

"Happenstance might have made me an Englishman, but I chose to be a New Yorker. And, hopefully, I’ll die as one, too." I adored this book He doesn't explain his life - just describes it. Mistakes after mistake after mistake and there are many - personal and professional. Work is where he finds meaning. Yet, not redemption, nor clarity. Just description. It didn't cheer me up - or break my heart. It is sharp, strange and unique. And yes, he in part invented what we now think of as downtown NYC. "Restaurant design begins and ends with lighting"
