I just had a mini-epiphany about myself today. It isn’t all math that I like. It’s specifically frontier stuff like the Riemann hypothesis because no one has figured it out yet. I don’t care about physics in general. I just enjoy fringe interpretations of quantum weirdness, because they melt my brain. I don’t even dive because I enjoy the fish, or fly because I long to be a bird. I just like nerding out over the theory and the gear. I need to reevaluate more of my hobbies and tastes accordingly. Including crypto — which I don’t think I truly even care for, if not for Ethereum and its civilizational ambitions. Sorry for the navel-gazing post — just wanted to get it out in case somebody relates to this

Perhaps somewhat related but different: I find myself attracted to things that are not saturated. Especially things that are undersaturated. Cutting edge AI is cool and all, but I have very little appeal to engage deeply with it because there's such a massive overabundance of people (brilliant and not) who are dedicating their lives to it. On the other hand, Ethereum still feels dramatically undersaturated, especially considering how many different slices of tech subtrees are sprouting out of it (scaling, privacy, financial expressiveness, security/safety, devex, governance, etc etc). I similarly enjoy getting deep "in the weeds" of how the sausage is made for things like this.

No need to apologize for "navel-gazing." Love reading this kind of writing. I'm on the same page about crypto. Ultimately it's Ethereum that keeps me here even when I'm thoroughly fed up with the rest of crypto.
