Globally, there are about 562 million people who own crypto as of 2024. Despite this, only 59% of wallet users prefer self-custody wallets over custodial ones, meaning many people are still trusting third parties. There are around 820 million active crypto wallets in 2025. Even with more people holding crypto, most don’t keep full control of their keys centralised exchanges still play a big role.
