➯ Let’s take a look at 3 key topics that Gavin talked at Sub0 symbiosis
➯ The internet lost its path
Gavin argued that decentralisation is in danger today because big centralized companies dominate much of the internet. The original vision of the internet was openness and freedom but now, a handful of huge platforms control most of what happens. This concentration of power contradicts the decentralised promise of Web3, making the internet less of a public good and more of a few companies’ playground.
➯ Crypto adoption is still tiny
He pointed out that crypto adoption remains very limited. Globally, there are about 562 million people who own crypto as of 2024.
Despite this, only 59% of wallet users prefer self-custody wallets over custodial ones, meaning many people are still trusting third parties.
There are around 820 million active crypto wallets in 2025.
Even with more people holding crypto, most don’t keep full control of their keys centralised exchanges still play a big role.
