OpenAI is now required by court order to preserve all ChatGPT logs including "temporary chats" and API requests that would have been deleted 

if I understand this correctly, it means data retention policies for apps that use OpenAI API simply cannot be honored

NYT lawyers had an unsubstantiated hunch that people circumvent their paywall via ChatGPT and then delete history to cover their tracks

and so the judge decided to prevent OpenAI from deleting data when a user deletes history

hunch is obviously ridiculous, there are many better ways to circumvent a paywall

I don't think they can do this in the EU thankfully
