case study is an understatement, though i believe there are some historical efforts capture it. it's a very unique community mostly of outcasts that struggle to fit in and function in the "regular world." Rates of suicide are quite high. My wife worked DPW twice, 6+ months out in the desert each time, made many connections, and has received more news about friends from DPW passing away just within the last couple years than i have received in my entire life... a lot of these vulnerable people are working as unpaid labor, and the ones who do get paid are EXTREMELY underpaid for the raw amount of hours they put in. One DPW employee tried to unionize them and was fired for it.
