Can Permanent Storage Protocols Like Arweave Handle Compliance-Heavy Data? Arweave’s “write once, read forever” model is powerful—but when it comes to highly regulated data like medical records, it gets tricky. Why? Compliance frameworks like HIPAA and GDPR often require data mutability, patient consent controls, and even the right to erasure—features Arweave doesn’t natively support. That said, layered architectures are emerging. By storing encrypted metadata or pointers on Arweave while sensitive content lives off-chain (or in mutable storage), hybrid solutions can achieve permanence without sacrificing compliance. In short: not natively ideal for regulated data, but smart architecture can bridge the gap.
