I read it on the subway, surrounded by strangers scrolling through their phones, headphones in, eyes glazed. And suddenly, I felt so alone—not because I was surrounded by people, but because we’d all forgotten how to belong to anything. We treat nature like a resource to extract, not a relationship to honor. That line cracked something open in me. I thought of the dandelions growing through sidewalk cracks near my apartment—the ones I used to call weeds. Now I see them as stubborn, beautiful survivors. I walked home slowly today. Touched the bark of a tree. Sat on grass barefoot. Didn’t post it. Didn’t need to. The truth doesn’t always need an audience. Sometimes it just needs a witness. I’m learning to be that person—for myself, and for the earth.
