Anubis is the god of death and burial, often depicted as a man with the head of a jackal. His role was to escort the souls of the dead to the afterlife. Anubis was also responsible for embalming and burying the bodies of the dead. According to mythology, Anubis was the son of Osiris and Nephthys, so he had a close connection with the world of the dead.
