The mini app design sprint is going weekly! A long time ago (feels like it lol), seven mini apps took part in the first 2 iterations of /red mini app design sprint. Work was done, feedback was good. I'm now doing back-to-back weekly sprints until end of the year. Next week is already booked out (!) and I'm working with @0xconca.eth on a mini-app to handle booking for following cohorts. In the meantime, reach out directly if you want to participate, and I'll remind you of slots every week anyway. Please read before you reach out or book your slot: # TLDR Mini App Design (MAD) sprints are 1-week public† design sprints for mini app developers or owners. The fee is 500 $USDC. You can use the sprint to redesign an existing app, explore ideas for extending the current app or try out an entirely new concept. They are priced low because we're testing the format and because these are not design retainers: it's a one-shot in design terms. But the price will increase, so if you're interested, we suggest you get in now. † If you want your work not to be public, you can participate Privately for a higher fee. Please read on for more info. # WHAT IS A SPRINT Sprints are a time-boxed frameworks to answer a high-stakes product question. They originate from Scrum, then Google Ventures updated and open-sourced the format (gv.com/sprint). The larger point is that sprints—much like design in general—benefit from constraints. Time is one of those constraints. It makes sense for mini apps because have short product cycles. # STRUCTURE MAD sprints have a simple, three-part structure: 1 — on Monday, we go over the existing product or concept, we map it out, do some research, create a moodboard and identify the 3 to 5 screens we'll design during the sprint; 2 — on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, we design; 3 — on Friday, we codify a simple design system, create social assets, film a short video walkthrough and put finishing touches as we go. # DELIVERABLES You'll get 3 to 5 high-fidelity screens, one annotated screen with the details of the design system (colours, fonts and components) and social assets such as pfp or cover image on request. The Figma file itself will be public; you won't have Edit access, but you'll be able to duplicate the whole thing or parts of it. # FEEDBACK At the end of (or during) each day, we'll reach out when we have questions or there are multiple ways we could go. You're also free to do so, of course. We'll also try to get as much public feedback as possible. These are not "revision rounds" in the classic sense, but we will take them into account. # COMMS You don't have to engage with our daily updates, they're just part of our design process and you can just lurk to then end. We'll keep comms wherever we started our conversation (DCs, Telegram or whatever). # KICKOFF You can send us material all the way to Monday morning at 9am (GMT). After that, we'll run the sprint based on what we have. If you send us nothing, we'll just have fun with it. # CONFIDENTIALITY Unless you tell us otherwise, you should expect the material you send us to end up on the public Figma file. If there are some bits and pieces you want to keep private, just let us know. # SCOPE We'll redesign the visible surface of the chosen screen and everything in it; if your logo needs a refresh, we'll give it a go. Same for typography, components, colours and any other assets. # OWNERSHIP You'll own the designs created and will be free to use, edit or ship products based on them. You don't have to credit us, although we'll appreciate if you do. We retain the rights to show, record and discuss the sprint. If you participate in the Private Track, this is handled differently (read on). # PAYMENT Sprints run weekly, so payments are final and no refunds are issued. Slots are on a first-come basis; funds must reach us before we begin to discuss material and before Monday. If you need to pay in fiat, we'll send you a Stripe link. # PRIVATE TRACK You can choose to run your sprint privately, but it will cost more: public engagement is part of the reason why we can keep prices so low (for now). The private track costs 1,000 $USDC and you can choose what — if anything — we can share about it once it's over. However, we will announce who's taking part privately. We can agree to NDAs exceptionally. # NOTES - Existing clients include /betr, /checkr, /clankermon, /mintedmerch, /looti, /runner and @marqui - Check out the files of the first two sprints: -- https://www.figma.com/design/JWR1oHqjyckln0PigXtLdH/MAD-S01?node-id=5-30&t=8suQ6tRXIOB7zAoq-1 -- https://www.figma.com/design/tL80JUzKabbJ93KPEGC606/MAD-S02?node-id=0-1&t=zY9q5huYPNU7iMtS-1 - We'll stay in touch after the sprint is over and will help you with minor edits if you need them; if scope expands, we can talk about a retainer.
