It's no surprise the world went to shit in Planet of the Apes

They were so disorganised that they somehow managed to have a ship travel 1000+ light years in a perfect loop, decelerating and navigating back to earth at relativistic speed with impossible precision and not give any clue on nav systems

also the starfield does not change in 2000 years, which means that those genius astronauts never even bothered to check and had to bump into the literal statue of liberty to realise what happened

and no, the ship can't have just crashed after leaving because that does not account for time dilation

they had to have left, travelled long enough for time dilation to occur, never stopped and then crash landed back to earth

I am now convinced Planet of the Apes is a sequel to Idiocracy
